Scottish Hardwood Candlesticks

We met Andrew years ago when he was teaching furniture making at Jewel & Esk College. He has been experimenting with a very interesting approach to conventional wood turning. The result has been a series of candlesticks influenced by classical and traditional chair making design and technique. Some beautiful work in fumed oak, yew and ash. see more

 
 
Geof Hickey has an incredible eye for his landscapes and a master of painting technique. Buy Design has two new works in at the moment of Scottish Borders landscapes. He has a thing about ancient hills like Ruberslaw near Hawick, these images don't do teh work justice - come and view them for yourself. see more

Frances Teckkam has been designing and making for the Scottish and International Textile and Knitwear Industry for a long time. Her new personal ranges have that edgey and contemporary look whilst drawing on her knowledge of old patterns and techniques. I don't think that the swallows will be waiting for the volcanic ash to settle. But they are usually here by now. They probably know that its still snowing up north today. Its always great to see them back. Last year we saw our butterflies from the garden chasing the swallows off !! Come and enjoy a seat out on the flight paths in the Butterfly Garden this summer.

Just got some new ceramics in today. A really broad selection of hand thrown table wares. In blue and brown glazes. Drizzlers, egg splitters, cauldrons, dip holders, oil jars, salt bins. Unusual domestic pottery at great prices.

Take a Seat :  Saturday 15th May 2010 10.00am - 5.00pm, Buy Design Gallery

This is a very hands on outdoors workshop where the participants are led through the story of a stool. Attendees are shown how by starting with a log of local timber how to make a three legged stool from start to finish. The methods and techniques used are all human powered splitting, shaving, turning, shaping and finishing. The way they used to make them "in the old days" but with a contemporary twist. Book Now spaces are limited.
