Will Gilchrist Coat Stand
Wiil Gilchrist has designed and made these elegant coat/hat/bag stands in local oak and birch this time for the gallery. Hand forged pegs finish off this classic yet really stylish piece of hall or vestibule furniture. A product of lasting design quality at its best.
SOLD Adrian McCurdy Tartan Rocker
Adrian McCurdy 's beautiful Tartan Rocker seems to embody all the colours, patinas and ageing of a 16th century piece of Scottish furniture. This is a beautiful piece of work that he brought into Buy Design last week. We have a wonderful elm coffee table with a three inch top on it. You should see the colour and grain on this piece. Stunning !!
Pete Hallam lives just along the road from Buy Design and paints in his own specially created environment. This man has got a wonderful eye for colour, structure and composition. This is BIG work in all senses of the word. Once into his study you are not in a hurry to leave. They are wonderful places.Pete will hopefully be showing with us during the Crossing Borders Arts Trail in September. But come and enjoy his work right now. They will not be here for long we're sure.
Ian Grant came in yesterday with some exquisite work again. His three cornered bowls have always been popular with our customers. But he is pushing out the boat with some new work. These very complicated mosaics or landscapes of hardwoods are just a wonderment. How does he make them ? Beautifully finished as platters, coasters, vessels or quite simply works of art for the wall. Come and see them for yourself.
Buy Design will be taking the best of the Borders to the Border Union Show at Kelso Friday and Saturday. See us at the Crossing Borders Stand in the main exhibition hall.
Thanks to Donald, Angela, Brian, Amanda and Kate for working so hard at their stool making day. You all managed to make some beautiful stools during the day. There is a maker within you all! You might not have thought it when you first rolled up in the morning , but what a shift you put in and look at what you accomplished by the end of the day. Brilliant !!
This is what our gallery dog fans are watching at the moment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUCRZzhbHH0
We thought you might want to see a one off response to Spain winning the World Cup last night. It wasn't a fantastic game but the best side definately won the competition. Although the cloggies played (sort of) in orange yesterday they seemed to prefer yellow.
Superb wire bowls and vessel forms designed by Jois Hunter have arrived in the gallery at the weekend. Working as a designer with a bespoke blacksmithing at Ratho takes up most of her time, but when she can get to her own work she produces beautiful and delicate vessel and animal forms.
We had a really good get together last week. We were wanting to raise a bit of awareness about the Art Trail in September and to let local businesses know about some of the benefits of associate membership. If you area business that does or would like to support local arts, crafts and artists please get in touch. If you are a practicing artist or maker based in the Borders and Northumberland it is really worth considering joining as well. Buy Design is hosting the CD findraiser. Crossing Borders members have donated a piece of their work in a CD case. All works are £20. I'm telling you there are some really beautiful works there at an absolute snip !!
